Semantics of the Process Description Language
نویسنده
چکیده
The Process Description Language (PDL) [2] was developed as a Java extension for description of processes. It describes process as a set of activities that are partially ordered (in time) using a mechanism based on high level Petri Nets especially ICNets[1]. The aim of this paper is to give precise and formal definition of the PDL language semantics. For this purpose the theory of Abstract State Machines (ASM) [4, 5] is used. Because the PDL is rather descriptional than executive proposed ASM model is quite different from those presented in eg. [6, 7]. Only meta model of general process is constructed and methodology how to transform PDL description of particular process to initial state of such model is described. This initial state then in fact instantiates meta model to the model of concrete process.

Translation and Hybridity in Scenes and Frames Semantics
The present study is a theoretical attempt to illustrate how Fillmore's Scenes and Frames Semantics (SFS) could be employed as a framework to portray the process of understanding and translating hybrid texts. It first reviews the origin of SFS; then it maps SFS onto Nida’s linguistic model of translation process and the Interpretive Theory of Translation; it examines in the next section, withi...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
متن کاملWhat’s behind meaning?
The paper addresses the main questions to be dealt with by any semantic theory which is committed to provide an explanation of how meaning is possible. On one side the paper argues that the resources provided by the development of mathematical logic, theoretical computer science, cognitive psychology, and general linguistics in the 20th Century, however indispensable to investigate the structur...
متن کاملApplication of Frame Semantics to Teaching Seeing and Hearing Vocabulary to Iranian EFL Learners
A term in one language rarely has an absolute synonymous meaning in the same language; besides, it rarely has an equivalent meaning in an L2. English synonyms of seeing and hearing are particularly grammatically and semantically different. Frame semantics is a good tool for discovering differences between synonymous words in L2 and differences between supposed L1 and L2 equivalents. Vocabulary ...
متن کاملThe Comparative Semantics of ‘Recitation’ and ‘Chanting’ in the Holy Quran and Hadith’s Viewpoint
In linguistics, a study of the relation between word and meaning is called semantics. Semantics is a term for referring to study the meaning of elements of a language, particularly to study the real context of sentences and phrases of a language. The meaning of ‘recitation’ and ‘chanting’ in terms of Quranic, Hadith and idiomatic applications will be identified in this p...
متن کاملWiddowson and Classroom Discourse
Drawing on recent developments in linguistic description and applied linguistics, it can be concluded that learning a language necessitates getting to know something and being able to do something with that knowledge: competence, and performance. Structural approach to language description attaches importance to the former; communicative approach to the latter. Appropriate classroom discours...
